Paradise Bay Activities Committee 

Minutes of December 11, 2017 meeting

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 9:30 a.m.

Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as presented.

Treasurer’s report was given by Wendy Graf. Report from the Audit showed a difference of $118.88, Peggy Neely and Wendy Graf will accept this error and write off that amount to balance the audit.  Motion by Betty Trader and 2nd by Sue Cassidy to accept.

Bayfest was discussed for March 3rd 2018 Saturday. There will be pulled pork and hot dogs inside the hall. 1950’s &1960’s theme with dancers during the lunch, antique car parade, along with golf carts decorated for the theme.  Following the Para Sara Happy Days golf cart rodeo.

Heidy Kiess reported the Ladies Friendship Needs men’s underware for Turning Point.

Travel by Don Howard given in absence of Nancy Howard,  They will be traveling to Edison Jan. 17th. For $97.00 per person, reservations in by Jan 13th.  Lynn Kalman inquired about the price.

Arlene Sharpston pancake breakfast Jan. 19th 2018 at 8:00 till 9:30 a.m.

Sara bay, Bonnie Kragis is the Newletter person.

Phyllis Cook has resigned as Receptions Volunteer.

Sue Cassidy has done a lot of traveling and the committee has voted to reimburse her for her travel.

Tom Colson submitted a bill to The Activities Committee treasurer Wendy Graf for the flowers on the bay. Tom said that the watering schedule is completed.

Christmas Open House is December 24, 2017 between the hours of 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Peggy Neely reminded the committee that this was done by the Activities Committee and stated volunteers are needed.

There was a discussion for the new electronic sign.  What computer should be used to run the sign. Who would be in control of the accessibility into it. Sue Miller mentioned a new computer might have to be purchased.  Motion made by Jim Gath and 2nd by Marlin Snyder to proceed for the amount and information of the sign.

Golf League, meets every Tuesday at Pinebrook Golf Course, in charge is Jim Gath.

Carl Shaver brought up that all Committees that use cups, napkins, coffee etc. for their meetings or luncheons should reimburse the Activities Committee for the expense.

Paradise Bay Activities Committee

Minutes of February 13, 2017 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 9:30 a.m.

Carl Shaver led us in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as presented.

Treasurer’s report was given by Phyllis Cook with a balance of $6,878.19 as of 2-8-17.  There were no questions of the Treasurer’s Report.

Friendship Club-Heidy Keiss-There will be a Fashion Show on March 1st at Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.  Tickets for $3.00 each will be on sale at the next coffee hour, 2-20-17.  Also, the Friendship Club will be selling items at 24 7th St. during the Park-Wide Sale on March 4th.  There will baked goods, hot dogs, and drinks for sale, too.

Shuffleboard-Bernie Broda-The state tournament was held here.  There were many comments on how wonderful our facilities look.

Library-Sue Cassidy-sold books during the Craft & Hobby Bazaar.  There have been many improvements to the library and it looks very nice.

Craft & Hobby Bazaar-Jean Colson-it was very successful.  There were 22 vendors.  We collected $206.00 for the tables.

Entertainment-Ken Huizinga-at the last show by Re-Creation, there was a free will donation given for $1,200.00 from the audience. In 2018, there will be 5 shows.  Season tickets are $40.00 each.  Next year will be the last year for the current Chair people.  In order to train new people on the procedure on what is done to acquire the shows each year, we need volunteers, as soon possible.  This is necessary for the Entertainment to continue for 2019 season.

Bocce-Jim Kleiner-thank you to the Activity Committee for sharing the cost of the bleachers. The cost was $737.00.  The Bocce Club and the office, also, contributed.

Health-Rainy Dula-the Health Fair is Feb. 22nd at 9-12 at the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.  There will be 30 vendors.  There will be a raffle for various prizes with a ticket drawn every half hour. The bloodmobile will be there at 9-1.  More people are needed to sign up and/or donate blood.

BayFest-Lori Jacob-being held March 7th at 11-2.  She needed more people to run the games.  Many people at the meeting volunteered so she has enough now.  The other jobs, i.e. food, money collection, clean-up have been filled.  The Parade to promote BayFest is Feb. 28th at 10 a.m., line up at 9:30 at Sarasota Bay Rec Hall.  She would like more people to participate in the parade.  FYI-Peggy mentioned that the Corn Hole game is available for use during the year.

Decorations-need volunteer to take over in the fall. Items need to be organized.

Dance-Oldies music, Mar. 4th at 7-10 p.m. at Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.  Tickets are $10.00.  Sellers are listed in the newsletter.  More people are needed to attend.  BYOB(beer/wine)

Newsletter-Joyce-400 newsletters were delivered by street captains. The newsletters are, also, available on line and at the office.  Deadline for submissions for the newsletter is the 25th of each month.

Pancake breakfast-Arlene Sharpsten-the next pancake breakfast is Fri., Feb. 17th 8-9:30 a.m.

History-Brenda Ocenasek-would like old minutes.  The current minutes will be emailed, copied, posted at the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall and put on the website.

Boating & Fishing Club-Carl Shaver-our club meets once a month.  In order to recruit volunteers, we would need an advance notice of upcoming activities.  There has been 32 people sign up for the CPR training.  The Easter dinner will be on April 16th that is hosted by our club.  There are only 7 volunteers, now, and more are needed.

BayFest 2018 will be March 1, 2018.  Parade will tentatively be on Feb. 26 or 27, 2018.

Peggy asked whether or not we should ask to split the cost with Sarasota Bay of 2 new horseshoe pits.  Betty Trader made a motion to do so. It was seconded and passed with a unanimous voice vote.

There was discussion that the Activities listed in the Policies and Procedures needed to be updated. Also changes to the Policies and Procedures in the March 2016 meeting were invalid as the proposed changes were not in accordance with the Policies and Procedures dated 11/09/15.  Carl Shaver made a motion to have the Executive Committee review the Policies and Procedures for any needed revision, to update the Activities list and clarify who can vote with the results to be submitted at the next Activity Committee meeting.  It was seconded and passed with a unanimous voice vote.

Peggy would like to host a luncheon for volunteers and would like to know who is interested in attending.

Paradise Bay Activities Committee

                                                           Minutes of March 13, 2017 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 9:31 a.m.

Since Cindy Cole was the only nominee for Vice-Chairperson and Barbara Zorin the only nominee for Treasurer, they will assume those offices.  

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as corrected.

Treasurer’s report was given by Phyllis Cook with a balance of $7,930.  The proceeds from BayFest were $762.  The Cash Awards balance is $5,469. There were no questions of the Treasurer’s Report.

Peggy N. stated that she asked Sarasota Bay to share the cost of the bleachers for Bocce.  They said they would contribute approximately $256.  Also, after we get the receipts for the two horseshoe pits, they will share in the cost of them.

Art Class-The Art Show will be on Sun., March 19th at 1-3p.m. at the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.  The signs advertising it are up.

BayFest-Lori Jacob-Bernie B. was the winner of the raffle with the ticket without a name.  Lori stated that there was a lack of communications in several areas during the planning of BayFest, such as not getting the correct information in SaraBay’s newsletter, prospective volunteers calling to find out their assignments after emails were sent to them, tables and chairs not set up when scheduled.  In order to coordinate BayFest next year, Lori needs 5-7 people to be on the committee with her.  Jean Colson agreed to be on the committee. Lori will send out an email asking for more volunteers.

Bayfront Flowers-Tom Colson-thank you to everyone that watered.  The flowers will stay up until Easter.

Cards(Euchre Monday Night)-Mary Fox-we will continue playing through March.

Cards(Pinochle)-Heidy Kiess-we will continue to play through most of April.

Clogging-Glenda Mattinen-we will continue until the end of March.

Decorations-Peggy N. stated that Lynn Kalman will be in charge of decorations.

Entertainment-Peggy N. said there is a possible replacement for Ken Huizinga but needs confirmation.

Historical Committee-Brenda Ocenasek-She passed out forms to be filled out to those present asking for when their activity started, its purpose, and pictures.

I-Pad Class-Joyce Nicholson-Dates were changed in March.  She is willing to continue the class through April and will ask the attendees whether or not they would like to do that. 

Newsletter-Joyce Nicholson-Joyce is here until May and is willing to continue the newsletter through the summer.  It was stated that the year round residents do like getting it.  Also, there are neighbors that get copies and deliver to the residents that do not have a computer.

Friendship Club-Heidy Kiess-Thirty four ladies attended the meeting last week.  The Fashion Show was a success.  We received a letter from a SaraBay resident saying how nice it was.  During the two park wide sales, we sold 150 and 180 hot dogs, respectively.  We donated $1,000 to HOPE, $500 to Southeast Guide Dogs, and $200 to the Fire Dept. Scholarship, $100 to Turning Point and $150 to Homeless Vets.  Also, we filled 30 bags for the homeless.

Pancake Breakfast-Arlene Sharpsten-The pancake breakfast will be on Fri., March 17th at Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.

Registration-Phyllis Cook-The tickets are done for the Easter Dinner.  They will be available at the next coffee hour.

Telephone Directory-Carol King-The directories have been distributed to each resident.  If no one was home, a directory was not left.  If anyone did not receive one, they are available in the office.

Robin Smith announced there will be a meeting on Wed., March 15th at 3 p.m. at Paradise Bay Rec. Hall for anyone interesting in playing Pickle Ball here.  Everyone is welcome.

Dances-Mary Fox-Everyone had a good time at the Dance on March 4th.  There are still tickets on sale for the Dance on March 25th.

Paradise Bay Activities Committee

Minutes of February 27, 2017 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Cindy Cole at 9:30 a.m.

Dan Smith led us in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Qi Gong/Zumba-Mary Weaver notified everyone that she has sold their mobile home and would be moving soon.  She, also, thanked everyone for their help and support over the years.

Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as presented.

Treasurer’s report was given by Phyllis Cook with a balance of $6,918.01 as of 2-20-17.  There were no questions of the Treasurer’s Report.  Barbara Zorin was appointed as the Treasurer and was approved with a unanimous voice vote.

BayFest-Lori Jacob-all the jobs have been filled.  Tomorrow, Tues., Feb. 28th will be the parade to promote BayFest.  There will be valuable prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in all categories i.e., cars, golf carts, bikes/trikes.  For BayFest, we still need one canopy and more gift cards for prizes.  Set up for BayFest will start at 9 a.m. on Tues., March 7th.  Thank you Lori for doing a great job.

Boating & Fishing Club-Carl Shaver-We are hosting the Easter Dinner on Sun., April 16th. Susan Miller is coordinating it and has only 7 volunteers and needs more.  Several people in attendance did offer to help.  Tickets will be distributed at the coffee hours on March 20th and April 3rd.

Friendship Club-Heidy Kiess-The Fashion Show on March 1st will have almost 200 attending with 11 models.  Also, the Friendship Club will be selling items at 24 7th St. during the Park-Wide Sale on March 4th.  Please bring any items you would like to donate to 24 7th St. on Fri., March 3rd.  All proceeds go to local charities.  All ladies are welcome to join the Friendship Club.

Bocce-Jim Kleiner-We would like to make a $200.00 donation to the Activities Committee.  We held a very fun tournament last week.  Everyone had a great time.  He thanked the Committee for helping pay for the bleachers. The concrete for the bleachers will be poured today.  Also, a banner will be displayed on the garage for Bocce.

There will be a Memorial Service on Sun., March 5th.  The Committee will pay $40.00 for the flowers.

There was discussion about allowing someone outside the park to conduct an activity.  It was in regards to allowing a Yoga instructor that isn’t a resident or renter to lead a Yoga class.  It was decided to have a meeting with the staff to resolve the issue.  

Travel-Nancy Howard-The bus is full for the Six Bridge Cruise, Starlite Majesty on March 16th.  The Cruise meeting for next year’s cruise will be on March 14th at 3 p.m.  All details will be available at that time.

Old Business:  Voting List update-corrections were made and accepted.

Directory-Carol King-The directory has been completed and will be delivered.

Jim K. asked if Pickle Ball had been approved and if so, where the court might be placed.  It was stated that Pickle Ball has not been approved, yet, and there is no definite plans on where the court would be.  Jim K. was wondering if the shelters at the shuffleboard courts next to Sarasota Bay Rec. Hall were not going to be used, he would like them for Bocce.  It was, also, mentioned that there has been injuries to people who were playing Pickle Ball and this might cause a liability issue.  

New Business:  Nominating Committee-It was decided that since Cindy Cole will accept the nomination for Vice-Chairperson and Barbara Zorin will accept the nomination for Treasurer for next year that it was not necessary to appoint a nominating committee.  It was approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Health-Rainy Dula-there was 15 people who donated blood at the Blood Mobile during the Health Fair on Feb. 22nd.

Sunshine Club-Rose Westra-Flowers were distributed to everyone 90 years or over.  Thank you for the funds.

Paradise Bay Activities Committee

Minutes of March 27, 2017 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Peggy Neely at 9:30 a.m.

Susan Miller requested representatives from the Clubs/Activities who turn in an annual report meet with her after the meeting.

Minutes from the previous meeting were posted and stand approved as presented.

Brenda Ocenasek led us in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Treasurer’s report was given by Phyllis Cook with a balance of $7,336. There were no questions of the Treasurer’s Report.

Entertainment-Bert-we have a new leader, Linda Ramsey along with four other new leaders, Randy & Darnel Darr and Carl & Rosie Kerr.

Clogging-Glenda Mattinen-we participated in the SaraBay Talent Show. Our last session for the season will be tomorrow, Tues., March 28, 2017.

Bayfront Flowers-Tom Colson-we will be watering the flowers until April 22, 2017.

Golf-Jim Gath-we will continue through May.

Peggy N. announced that Barbara Zorin has resigned as Treasurer.  Therefore, Wendy Graf has been appointed as our new Treasurer.  Wendy will not be here during the summer months so Carol King will assume the duties of Treasurer in her absence. Phyllis Cook will go to the bank to make the necessary changes.

Historical Committee-Brenda Ocenasek-she passed out forms at the last meeting asking for information from each club/activity.  She gave a form to anyone that didn’t get one then.

Board of Directors representative-Heidy Kiess-there will be a Board of Directors meeting tomorrow, March 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall to present information about the roads and sewers. Lynn Burnett from LTA will be giving the information only presentation.

Ladies Friendship Club-Heidy Kiess-our last luncheon meeting for the season is Wed., April 12th.  Heidy Kiess’ volunteer job at Turning Point will be open after she leaves for the summer.  She does the laundry on Fridays at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  If you are interested in filling that position, please let her know.

Car Club (Paradise Bay Cruisers)-Marlin Snyder-he would like pictures of the BayFest Parade.  Joyce will put an article in the newsletter requesting them.  There is not a Ladies Car Club.  The Car Club is open to both men and women.  They will continue to meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month throughout the summer.

Newsletter-Joyce Nicholson-She will continue doing the newsletter year round. She will be leaving June 1st.  Information for the newsletter can be emailed to her.  There is a 12 page limit for the newsletter.  Therefore, it is necessary to edit some of the articles.  The deadline to have information posted in the newsletter is the 25th of the month.  If you would like the newsletter delivered during the summer months, contact Marlin Snyder.

Calendar-Cindy Cole-the calendar is done for the year.

Registration-Phyllis Cook-she will continue making posters, etc. for the dinners.

Easter Dinner will be on Sun., April 16th.-tickets will be available at the next coffee hour, Mon., April 3rd

Billboard-Larry Neely-he keeps it updated.  Phyllis will update during the summer months.

Bocce-Jim Kleiner-the banquet is on Wed., March 29th at 6 p.m. at Duff’s

Cindy Cole informed us that there are 10-12 people that are learning to play Mah-Jong on Fridays at 1 p.m. at the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall.  There have been two ladies teaching everyone how to play.  Also, there are people playing Mah-Jong at the Helm’s House on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m.

Sunshine Club-Cora Brooks will be replacing Rose Westra as the representative.

Art Class-Marilyn Morrisey-The Art Show was very successful.  Thank you to everyone who helped.

Bingo-Peggy Neely-the last Bingo is Mon., April 10th.  The first Bingo for next season will be Mon., Nov. 13, 2017.

 

Bible-Dan Smith-We have had 20-30 people participating this year.  Thank you to everyone.  Our last session will be this Thurs., March 30th.   We will start again next year on Thurs., Jan. 4, 2018 at 10 a.m. and continue every Thursday through March 2018.

Peggy N. said she would like to have a small luncheon for all the volunteers some time next January.

Cindy C. would like some ideas to improve our coffee hours for next season.

Jim G. is going to talk with his brother about possibly conducting training for the current web site.  Susan Miller is hoping to do the same for the new web site that is being developed.

Peggy N. informed us that Bingo is working towards buying an electronic board to replace the current manual one outside the Paradise Bay Rec. Hall that lists upcoming events.  She said it would cost approximated $2,000-$3,000 without a protective case.  Jim G. said his brother might be familiar with that type of board and will talk to him about it.

Activities Committee

The PB/SB activities committee meets the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from November through March and oversees the clubs and events for the park.
